CROSSFIRE CHOIR

Crossfire Choir was Jay Pounders, Eddie Freeze, Brad Peet and Dennis Ambrose. Transplanted from Florida in the early 1980s, they anticipated their proximity to New York would accelerate success. And in the pop-friendly environment that New Brunswick was at the time, Crossfire Choir were certainly considered star material (though a less-puzzling band name might have helped their cause). Following several difficult years trying to get signed, they made the Back To The Wall LP in 1986, with production from two iconic 1980s sound guys (Stephan Galfas and Steve Lillywhite). The New Brunswick scene was splintering by this time, but there were still locals in the pop camp hoping CC would break through and put Brunswick on the map. It didn't happen, obviously. After which things kind of drifted apart, with lineup changes, and two more failed releases. But to its credit, the band did soldier on determinedly for quite awhile past their heyday. Eddie Freeze remained on the New Brunswick scene as a producer and musician, taking a pretty extreme turn with the Lunar Bear Ensemble in the late 1980s. Paul Devlin's Rockin' Brunswick site features video of Crossfire Choir in their glory days.

Everything about this 1984 flyer is suggestive of an era without omnipresent PCs, graphics programs, and other comforts we now take for granted.
