DP & THE GREYS

As a punk, or punk-lover (I probably looked like a hippie), I never checked out Dani Petroni's very 80s, hip-hop and jazz-inflected band, DP & the Greys. I certainly remember, and am no particular admirer of, the cover of their LP If You Really Love Me...You'll Kill Yourself. In real life they seemed much nicer than that sentiment, or that artwork. Of JR Smoots, who shares this bill with DP, I have no recollection at all, though he certainly was a Jersey presence. If necessary, this will jog your memory:

This flyer is standard-issue, all-over-the-place, everything askew, and so on. Actual ransom note letters (i.e., not a "Ransom Note" font) — say, what is it with DP and disturbing imagery? Well, the entire thing is just pieced together, isn't it? But I treasure this one for the Patrix logo, and the felt-tip marker adding "OPEN TILL 3AM," which I guess provided competitive edge in case the musical acts did not. The good old days.
